Shoes, Boots, Mocassins,
Slippers, Sandals, etc.
David has been making leather footwear since about 1980.
What started as a project to try to build a pair of school shoes for Adam (then aged 9) - as we did have some leather and a few simple tools, but we didn't have any money - developed rapidly into a "hobby" that took up many evenings, as well as large parts of the weekends and school holidays. First, a friend of Adam's persuaded his parents that he should have some similar shoes. Then, David made a pair for Deborah and a pair for himself, other people saw them, and orders began to roll in.
Each pair of shoes or boots is a fresh project. They are all made to measure and each pair is unique. They are made entirely by hand - the most complicated tool used is a revolving punch-plier! No lasts are used - the leather is moulded around the customer's own feet for shoes, while for mocassins it is a case of careful measurements and pattern making.
All shoes are built with a mid-sole, so that worn soles and heels can be replaced when necessary, and they all have 1inch of foam padding between the mid-sole and the lining for comfort and shock-absorption. Because they are made from natural leather, with no cardboard inserts for stiffening, they are very light to wear and they allow the feet to breathe. They are very durable too. David still wears a pair of brown "side-openers" that he made nearly 20 years ago!
The construction techniques mean that it is not possible to make a pair of shoes without at least 2 measurement/fitting sessions. However, mocassins can be made "at a distance", if necessary, as long as accurate measurements and foot drawings can be supplied. For all footwear, it is easy to allow for marked differences in left/right foot sizes, as a different pattern can be made for each foot.

Shoes/Mocassins with straps + buckles: add £15.00.
Boots with metal lace-hooks (bronze or nickel): add £15.00.
Soling: 6mm, 8mm or 10mm micro-cellular sheet soling included in above prices. Other types of soling by negotiation.
Decoration (burnt-in and/or hand-coloured designs): from £20.00 extra for simple designs. Designs and prices by negotiation.
